The AFT + secured credit card is available to AFT members who don’t qualify for the standard AFT + credit card because of past credit problems or not enough credit history. Credit is granted up to the amount the member has deposited in an interest-bearing savings account. This account serves as collateral or "security" for a line of credit equal to 100 percent of the deposit.

Members who carry the secured card and make satisfactory on-time payments for 18 months may be eligible to "graduate" to a regular AFT + credit card. Upon receiving a regular credit card, the member’s "deposit" is returned, with interest to the member.

Secured card features:

• No application fee

• $20 annual fee (lower than most secured cards)

• 18 percent fixed annual percentage rate

• Helps establish or rebuild credit

• May be eligible for regular credit card after 18 months of satisfactory on-time payments
