Get-well card for KennedyAFT staff recently had a chance to deliver a supersized get-well card to Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), who is recovering from cancer treatment at his home in Massachusetts. The card was signed by hundreds of AFT members, who took time during the union's recent convention in Chicago to send the senator messages of encouragement. It was appropriate that convention-goers signed the card since Kennedy was made an honorary AFT member when he addressed the union's national convention two years ago in Boston.

In addition to the actual card, which was delivered to the senator's office on Capitol Hill, more than 2,200 AFT members sent Kennedy get-well wishes electronically in response to a notice from the AFT. The photo shows Roberto Rodriguez, left, one of Kennedy's top education aides, with AFT legislative director Tor Cowan.
